Seafish approved onshore trainers

Each of our approved trainers has met our standards for seafood industry experience, formal training qualifications, appropriate technical qualifications and have demonstrated their capability to deliver face to face or remote training to the high standard required by Seafish.

Andrian Barratt delivers a practical fish quality assessment course.

As so many of our programmes are delivered remotely, we are able to provide the training requested with a relatively small group of expert trainers.

Approved examination invigilators

All of our trainers are also approved to invigilate examinations.

Additionally we have a small group of colleagues within and outwith Seafish who also provide invigilation services in support of our programme delivery.

What does it mean to be Seafish approved?

To become a Seafish approved trainer, an individual needs to meet certain criteria:

  •  A recognised teaching or training qualification.
  • Significant relevant experience in the seafood industry. Usually at least 2-5 years, but many of our trainers have 30-40 years experience.
  • Technical qualification(s).  For example to deliver introductory and Elementary food hygiene courses the trainer will have an Advanced Food Hygiene qualification.  In other words, to deliver at Levels 1 and 2 a qualification at Level 4 is needed.
  • Other qualifications.  For example to deliver practical training involving fish and shellfish we usually require the trainer to have at least Elementary Food Hygiene and health & safety qualifications.
And finally, we will want to observe them delivering 1 or 2 courses well before we “sign them off”.

We monitor the quality of our training by occasionally observing the delivery of courses AND by asking every trainee to provide feedback on how well their course or online training experience went.
