Fish frying training

There are two organisations that Seafish work in collaboration with to offer fish frying training. They are the KFE School of Frying Excellence and the National Federation of Fish Friers.

Training centres

Both the KFE School of Frying Excellence, based in Market Deeping, and the National Federation of Fish Friers based in Leeds offer a variety of training courses to meet the needs of a fish frier. Topics including preparation and cooking techniques are covered along with the importance of good frying medium management.

KFE School of Frying Excellence

Two-day Fish and chip training course 

  • This course is suitable for newcomers to the industry along with people working as fish friers, fish frier supervisors and fish frier managers.
  • It is a two-day taught course delivered at the KFE training centre in Market Deeping.
  • People who complete the course will receive a KFE/Seafish attendance certificate.
  • Course cost will be confirmed by the training provider.
  • Course materials are supplied by KFE.

Other training courses

  • Two-day Champions course, delivered by award-winning trainer Gordon Hillan and other fellow champion fish friers.
  • One-day Expand your Menu course, delivered by award winners Gary Rosser and John Molnar.
  • One-day Marketing and Advertising course, delivered by design and marketing agency Direct Approach.
  • One-day Future Proofing your Business course, delivered by award winners Kelly and Tim Barnes.

National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF)

Three-day Complete Guide to Shop Management

  • This course is ideal for newcomers to the industry, whether they are buying a fish and chip business or managing a business.
  • It is a three-day course consisting of two days delivered remotely via Zoom and one day of face-to-face training at the NFFF Training Academy in Leeds.
  • People who complete the course will receive an NFFF attendance certificate.
  • Course cost will be confirmed by the training provider.
  • Course materials are supplied by the NFFF.

Other training courses

  • One-day Practical Guide to Fish Frying course, delivered by an award winning fish frier at the NFFF Training Academy in Leeds.
  • In Shop course, delivered by NFFF approved trainer at the fish and chip shop where the trainees work.
